5 Hirer's responsibilities
- Care of the equipment. From the moment of collection or delivery until the items are returned and checked by the owner, the hirer is fully responsible for them. The hirer will use them only for their intended purpose, by competent people, following any instructions provided, and keep them clean, dry and secure at all times.
- Security. Items must not be left unattended in an unlocked vehicle or unsecured location, and must not be sub-hired, lent or taken outside the location stated above without the owner's written agreement.
- Insurance. The hirer must hold insurance covering the items against loss, theft and accidental damage for their full replacement value (shown above) for the whole hire period, including transport. The hirer must also hold public liability insurance where the equipment is used at an event or by members of the public. Proof of cover must be provided on request.
- Loss, theft and damage. The hirer must tell the owner within 24 hours of any loss, theft or damage, and report any theft to the police, providing the crime reference number. The hirer is liable for the cost of repair, or for the replacement cost listed above if an item is lost, stolen or cannot be economically repaired, whether or not their insurance pays out.
- Fair wear and tear. The hirer is not charged for normal wear and tear from proper use. Damage caused by misuse, negligence, weather exposure or unauthorised repairs is chargeable.
- Faults. If an item develops a fault, the hirer must stop using it and contact the owner. The hirer must not attempt repairs.
- Return. Items must be returned on time, clean and in the same condition as when hired. Late returns are charged at the daily rate above. Any missing parts or accessories will be charged at replacement cost.
- Deposit. The owner may deduct repair costs, replacement costs, cleaning or late charges from the deposit. Any remaining balance is refunded after inspection. If costs exceed the deposit, the hirer will pay the difference within 14 days of being invoiced.
- Ownership. The items remain the property of the owner at all times.
